What is a Porkle and how do we transform our inner Pyromaniac?

Everyone has a deeply ingrained ‘Movie of Me’ that shapes their worldview. As Krishna Das says, “You wake up each morning and become the star, producer, writer, director, and cinematographer of the 24/7 ‘Movie of Me.’ We even write our own reviews!” This constant self-referential perspective leads to daily angst and unhappiness. In this book, Duncan Trussell and Raghu Markus, via enlightening conversations, explore and share methods for transforming what Buddhists call ‘self-cherishing’ into a profound connection with all of life. We felt compelled to contribute to humanity by using our own experiences and the wisdom of our great teachers to illuminate the path.

It’s not just about deciding, ‘I’m tired of this, so I’m going to change overnight.’ Transformation requires genuine effort. Habituated patterns, neurotic tendencies, and pre-existing conditions often stem from parental, educational, and societal influences. Through Mindfulness, we gain clarity regarding our self-serving motives and learn how to alleviate our pain, isolation, and separation.

Forget about enlightenment. What can we do for one another? Consider the current state of the world. It’s all about connection. That exquisite moment of satori, pure essence, or ‘being here now,’ as Ram Dass referred to it, is synonymous with connection and inter-being. It becomes evident when we let go of our obsession with the mini ‘me.’

None of this would have been possible without the guiding rudder of wisdom and heartfulness from Ram Dass and the grace-filled presence of Neem Karoli Baba. It’s all about the joy we found in spending time with one another. Hence, ‘The Movie Of Me To The Movie Of We.’
